A new urea/ammonia unit built in north-east Iran

Mohammad Hassan Peyvandi, managing director of Tamin Petroleum & Petrochemical Investment Co. (TAPPICO), announced that a new urea and ammonia production unit has been planned to be constructed in Khorasan Petrochemical Complex (KHPC), and said: “Once this new production unit is built, KHPC production capacity will be nearby doubled,” reported the NIPNA.

Stating that the construction of this unit is still at preliminary engineering and feasibility study stage, he clarified: “Upon approval of the KHPC board, this project will be constructed and commissioned in four years.”

 The current annual ammonia, urea peril and crystal melamine production capacities at KHPC are 330,000 tons, 495,000 tons and 20,000 tons in order. The feedstock of this complex comes from HashemiNejad Gas Refinery (Khangiran) located in city of Sarakhs.

Peyvandi added: “Simultaneous with the construction of this unit, provided that Bojnourd Industrial wastewater treatment is completed by the ministry of power and the treated water transferred to KHPC, the new propylene production plan of KHPC will be also get implemented.”

He explained: “Simultaneously, talks have been lately held with companies from Japan, and South Korea including Chiyoda, Daelim and Hyundai Engineering Co. Ltd to allocate a part of the$8 Bln worth credit line to these projects.”
